8 Plates. One Critical Role: MCB Arc Chamber for Reliable Arc Control

When an MCB interrupts a fault current, the electrical contacts separate and an arc can form between them.

What happens next depends on the components working inside the breaker.

One of these critical components is the Arc Chamber, also known as an Arc Chute. Positioned around the contact area, it provides a controlled structure for managing the arc during interruption.

HAIPART manufactures precision Arc Chambers for MCB applications, combining carefully selected materials, copper plating and a compact multi-part structure.

A Compact 8-Plate Structure

The HAIPART MCB Arc Chamber featured here uses a compact assembly consisting of:

Component

Specification

Splitter Plates

8 pieces

Splitter Plate Material

#10 cold-rolled strip steel

Supports

2 pieces

Support Material

Green insulating paper

Arc Isolation Plate

1 piece

Surface Treatment

3 μm copper plating

Application

MCB

The combination of 8 splitter plates + 2 supports + 1 arc isolation plate creates the basic internal structure of the Arc Chamber.

Each component has a defined position and function within the assembly.

10# Cold-Rolled Steel Splitter Plates

The splitter plates are manufactured from #10 cold-rolled strip steel.

For an Arc Chamber, the splitter plates need to maintain consistent geometry and positioning inside the assembly. The plate profile, dimensions, spacing and forming quality can all influence the final assembly.

For this reason, precision forming and dimensional consistency are important during manufacturing.

The plates are then treated with a 3 μm copper plating layer according to the specified product configuration.

Why Copper Plating?

Copper plating provides a conductive metallic surface and can also contribute to the surface characteristics required by the component design.

For this MCB Arc Chamber, the specified copper plating thickness is:3 μm

Maintaining a consistent coating process is therefore part of the overall manufacturing requirements.

Insulating Supports and Arc Isolation

The eight splitter plates are held within the assembly by two green insulating-paper supports, together with one arc isolation plate.

These insulating components help maintain the intended separation and structural configuration of the metal plates.

The result is a compact assembly that combines:

Metal splitter plates + insulating supports + arc isolation

into one MCB internal component.

Rather than treating each part independently, the complete assembly needs to maintain the correct relationship between all components.

From Individual Parts to a Finished Arc Chamber

An Arc Chamber may look simple once assembled, but its manufacturing process involves multiple steps.

A typical production workflow can include:

Material Preparation

Precision Stamping / Forming

Copper Plating

Insulating Component Preparation

Component Assembly

Dimensional & Visual Inspection

Finished Arc Chamber

For circuit protection components, consistency from batch to batch is particularly important.

A small dimensional deviation in an individual part can affect the fit and positioning of the complete assembly.

  • Copper Conductive Components

  • Terminals

  • Copper Coils

  • Contact Components

  • Riveting & Welding Components

  • Customized Precision Assemblies

For Arc Chamber projects, HAIPART can work with customers on material selection, component geometry, stamping, surface treatment and assembly requirements according to the specific breaker design.

The goal is not simply to manufacture individual metal parts, but to provide a consistent component solution that integrates into the customer's circuit breaker.

Small Component. Critical Function.

An MCB may be compact, but the components inside it perform highly specific functions during circuit interruption.

The Arc Chamber is one example of how a relatively small component can play an important role in the overall breaker structure.

8 splitter plates.
2 insulating supports.
1 arc isolation plate.
3 μm copper plating.

Behind these numbers is a manufacturing process where material, geometry, surface treatment and assembly precision all matter.
